Still Coaching Youths while Running for School Board
Even with everything going on, I’m proud to still make time for what I love—coaching and serving as President of the Dentsville Youth Baseball League. Staying involved in the community is so important, and it's one of the best ways we can help shape the future for our kids. Whether it’s through sports, schools, or volunteering, we all have a role to play in building a better tomorrow. Let’s continue to show up for our community!

Connecting with parents from our community.
This afternoon, I had the pleasure of connecting with parents from our community and the Vipers Football Program at Polo Road Ball Fields. It was a fantastic opportunity to share my vision of bringing our community together, focusing on learning and growing collectively. Instead of just talking, I asked for feedback on what more we can do and any concerns that may not have been addressed.
One key topic was the need for more Reading Interventionists, which led to an important discussion about supporting students who are behind grade level, particularly as they transition into middle and high school. Many students struggle after just getting by in elementary school, and I believe Richland Two can take the lead in expanding resources for these students. Even just one extra year of focused help could make a huge difference in their educational journey and life beyond school.
There were also questions about improving school lunches, and I shared the exciting progress being made by Dr. Moore to enhance student meals. Another parent asked about support for students who aren’t interested in college. I talked about my commitment to working with the board and administration to bring back classes that focus on trade skills, an initiative that could take time to develop but is critical for many students' futures.
One of the more personal discussions came from a parent facing residency verification issues. It’s deeply troubling when students risk losing their place in school due to documentation problems, especially when the family is doing their best to meet requirements. I assured the parent I would look into the situation and help keep the child in school.
Finally, we discussed the recent cell phone ban. I support restricting phones during class, but I also understand the safety concerns parents have. We need a balanced approach that includes practical security measures like metal detectors, cameras, and common-sense safety protocols.
As the event wrapped up, one person asked if I’d forget about the community once elected. My answer was clear: I’ll never forget where I come from. I plan to hold regular meetings and share updates, so I can stay connected with the community and be transparent about the work I’m doing.
I truly enjoyed the conversation today, and it reinforced that many of the concerns raised align with the issues I’m focused on addressing. Don’t forget, on November 5th, vote Gary Dennis for Richland Two School Board. Together, we can make a difference!
